Mother’s Day came and went quickly, and now we’re only a couple of weeks away from Father’s Day. Dads often tend to be more nostalgic than moms—telling stories from their childhood and lighting up when something reminds them of the past.

Buying gifts for dads can sometimes be easier than shopping for moms. Many enjoy simple things like watching sports, eating out, or doing yard work—depending on how your dad likes to spend his free time. Finding a Father’s Day gift doesn’t have to be time-consuming or difficult. Think about what you gave your mom, then give it a dad twist: book a fun activity, take him out to dinner, or track down collectibles from his favorite childhood toy. There are plenty of ways to make the day special. If you’re stuck, consider a few Central Coast-inspired ideas.

Check Out Swing Time at Dairy Creek

If you haven’t visited Swing Time in San Luis Obispo yet, Father’s Day is the perfect time to go with the whole family. Make a reservation online and create some friendly competition—see who can hit the golf ball the farthest or rack up the most points.

The driving range features multiple platforms, so invite extended family or friends to join the fun. Each bay accommodates up to four players, so be sure to reserve additional bays if needed. Choose from six different games, including Longest Drive, Points Game, and Virtual Golf. You can also enjoy drinks or food from the café while you play.

Swing Time is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Rates vary based on time slots:

  • Early Bird (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.): $20 per bay per hour

  • Happy Hour (2 to 5 p.m.): $30

  • Prime Time (5 to 10 p.m.): $50

Challenge your dad to a swing-off—and maybe even make a fun bet out of it!

Treat Your Dad to a Delicious Meal

Whether your dad is working full-time or retired, he probably never truly stops. There’s always something to do—mowing the lawn, changing a lightbulb, or fixing an appliance. Dads often have a hard time relaxing, so give him a reason to slow down with a well-deserved meal.

If your dad loves steak, take him to Holdren’s Steak & Seafood in Santa Barbara. This old Western saloon–inspired restaurant serves award-winning steaks and fresh seafood, perfect if he prefers something lighter. A family-owned spot that’s been around for over 20 years, Holdren’s is a must-visit for Central Coast residents.

Enjoy Father’s Day Weekend at Lake Nacimiento

Turn Father’s Day into Father’s Weekend with a getaway to Lake Nacimiento in Paso Robles. Spend the weekend swimming in the lake, taking long walks in nature, and grilling dinner with the family.

Unplug from phones and social media and connect. Bring along card games or outdoor activities like Uno and cornhole to stay entertained. At night, stargaze and search for constellations. Share stories and memories from childhood—and maybe learn something new about your parents, too.
