My Spring Fashion Mood Board

The gloomy days are slowly coming to an end, and now that spring is here, we’re starting to see the sun more. While I’ll miss dressing in layers to beat the cold days, I look forward to adding pastel colors to my spring wardrobe. I’ve created a fashion mood board to use when putting together outfits, especially on days when I don’t have anything to wear. Even though it’s ideal to have staple pieces you can use in various outfits, incorporating colorful pieces can elevate any outfit.

Classic Button-Down Tops

Button-down shirts are a classic statement piece that pairs effortlessly with every outfit. They can be dressed up or down when styled with denim jeans and leather boots or a pair of shorts and sneakers. Wear them buttoned up and layer a colorful cardigan over them for a chic look. It gives you a chance to add some color to a neutral outfit.

Vests

Layering pieces are the star of this category because they can be worn with any shirt or alone. For example, vests became popular last year and will be again this spring. Their colorful designs make them perfect for every occasion. Throw them over a bralette with jeans and you have a striking coffee date outfit. Or, swap the jeans for denim shorts and you’re ready to hit the beach. On cooler nights, layer them over a cardigan or balloon-sleeve top to keep yourself warm.

Quilted Jackets

A quilted jacket is one clothing item that has been on my fashion bucket list since last spring. It’s the perfect jacket for every season. While it’s best to have one in a neutral color that you can style with everything, they’re cuter in a floral print or pastel color. Quilted jackets are pieces that you wear when you truly feel like you have nothing to wear in your closet. A pink floral patchwork jacket updates a white tee and denim jeans outfit.

Linen Pants

Every spring and summer, linen pants are the first to make an appearance once the weather starts to feel warmer. They’re lightweight and flowy, what else could you want? Plus, they’re available in every shade imaginable. However, I enjoy sticking to neutral linen pants like beige, white, and brown because it’s easy to add color to them. White linen pants with a blue halter neck top and brown sandals are the spring season outfit. Wear a butter-yellow tube top instead of a blue halter top or a red-orange spaghetti strap top.

Miniskirts

When buying linen pants, stick to neutral tones, but to spice up your wardrobe, add colorful mini skirts. Choose from satin, linen, and denim skirts as part of your outfit rotation for spring. They’re dressier than basic denim shorts and add a flirty look. The rule of thumb is one denim skirt, a neutral-colored skirt, and a colorful skirt of your choice for multiple options. However, if you have one of the three, you’re already ahead of the game. Style a pink satin skirt with a white flowy top and white ballet flats for a picnic activity. Or, pair a denim skirt with a patterned vest and sneakers for walking around town on the weekend.

Colorful sneakers

Shoes have never been my strong suit. I’ve always owned sneakers, but within the last year, I’ve expanded my shoe collection with loafers, kitten heels, and boots. Regardless of the number of shoes I have now, sneakers will always be my go-to. This spring, I want to add one pair of colorful sneakers to my collection. They add flair and color to any outfit. If you enjoy a structured outfit, match your shoes to your top or purse so that they complement each other. These gorgeous blue Adidas pair exceptionally well with the blue button-down and leopard print skirt. The skirt adds contrast to the blue tones without looking out of place; instead, it makes an interesting outfit.

Knee-high boots

One of my recent favorite pairs of shoes is my knee-high chocolate brown platform boots I wear with any miniskirt. They make a boring outfit interesting. If you’re not a high-heeled boot person, opt for knee-high rain boots or cowgirl boots. They still elevate an outfit and are made in different colors and textures. Play around with shoes in your outfits to show off your personality.

Pastel-colored hats, hair clips, sunnies

Last but not least: accessories! On the days when you give up on putting an outfit together, turn to your accessories. A plain outfit can turn cool with a bright-colored baseball hat, funky-shaped glasses, or chic hair clips. Scroll through Pinterest to gain hairstyle inspo that you can try to spruce up your outfit. If you don’t own a hat or sunglasses, throw on all your jewelry. Layer necklaces with small earrings to make them stand out. Or, wear bold earrings with bracelets and rings for a luxe look. Don’t stress over a boring outfit when accessories are made to enhance it.
