Autumn doesn’t officially begin until the end of the month, which means there’s still time to enjoy summer. But for those eager to ease into fall festivities without diving in headfirst, here are a few pumpkin patches on the Central Coast to help you prepare.

Most pumpkin patches open in October, but a few start early in September to celebrate the season. Some classic Central Coast spots include Avila Valley Barn, Solvang Pumpkin Patch, and Brookshire Farms. While each has its own charm, it’s worth venturing beyond your hometown to discover what other pumpkin patches have to offer. Grab your favorite fall sweater and get excited for apple cider donuts, pumpkin spice latte, and pumpkin picking.

Jack Creek Farms – Paso Robles

Named the Best Pumpkin Patch in California by House Beautiful Magazine, Jack Creek Farms in Paso Robles has become a favorite for families. The farm features U-pick seasonal fruits and vegetables, tastings, and animal feeding.

A $6 tasting pass includes samples of honey, maple syrup, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. You can also take home honey straws and maple candy.

For families with children, don’t miss Happy Acres—an old-fashioned farm-themed area featuring faux farmer’s markets, a tractor tire garden, a puppet theater, and an egg collection station. Though the setup is playful, real animals like goats, chickens, and rabbits are available for feeding. Goat feed costs $2.99. Happy Acres has a $15 admission fee, with discounts for larger families.

Boccali Ranch Pumpkin Patch – Ojai

For a scenic day trip, head inland to Ojai and visit the Boccali Ranch Pumpkin Patch. The town—famously featured in the 2010 film Easy A—is perfect for strolling, shopping, and exploring before or after your visit to the patch.

Spend the day picking fresh produce and pumpkins, and enjoy weekend hay wagon rides. In October, the farm also offers haunted hayrides, making this a spot worth visiting more than once during the season.

Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch – Santa Barbara

For a pumpkin patch experience with plenty of extras, head to Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch in Santa Barbara. The farm features hayrides, corn mazes, tractor rides, farm animals, and a wide selection of pumpkins.

A produce stand offers local favorites such as strawberries, corn, heirloom tomatoes, and lettuce. Lane Farms opens for the season on Sept. 27, operating noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. The corn maze closes daily at 6:45 p.m.

After visiting the patch, explore more of Santa Barbara—walk down the pier, browse shops, and grab dinner with an ocean view. Try Oku for sushi or Flor de Maíz for Mexican cuisine. A pumpkin patch visit can be the perfect excuse for a full-day getaway.
