Standalone books are helpful when trying to get out of a reading funk. They’re short, quick reads you can finish in a couple of days, and you don’t have to remember the characters for future books like you would in a series. However, getting a longer story for the characters is exciting. Hit book series like Twilight, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Good Girl Gone Bad include romance, suspense, and mystery that keep you wanting more after the first book. Plus, the characters always find a small place in your life once you read more about them and their shortcomings. We’ve gathered a few more series to add to your bookshelf that will consume your nights.
Twisted Series by Ana Huang
The Twisted Series contains four books focusing on a group of friends, including Ava, Bridget, Stella, and Jules. Each girl turns the most arrogant, heartless, and demanding man into someone falling at their feet and crushing anyone who tries to take their place. Ava falls for her brother’s best friend, Bridget falls for her elite bodyguard, Jules falls for Ava’s brother, and Stella falls for a troubled billionaire. The Twilight series involves various tropes, from enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, power dynamics, and best friends’ brother and sister. This series isn’t filled with sunshine and rainbows, We recommend reading the trigger warnings ahead of time to be on the safe side. The books range from 350 to 450 pages, so it’ll keep you occupied. Yet, you’ll be hooked from the first page.
Rebel Blue Ranch by Layla Sage
On the opposite side of the reading spectrum, we have the Rebel Blue Ranch series, which revolves around the Ryder family plus the family’s new member, Camille Ashwood, who lives in a small town in Meadowlark, Wyoming. The Ryder siblings, Emmy, Weston, and Gus, fall head over heels for folks they never saw coming. Emmy falls in love with Gus’s best friend, Luke. Wes only has eyes for his new interior designer partner, Ada. As much as it pains Gus, he gets knocked over by the one person he can’t stand, Emmy’s red-headed best friend, Teddy. The honorable new Ryder member, Camille, is Gus’s baby mama. They never dated; instead, they remained friends. Yet, old sparks start flying when an old cowboy, who happens to be Camille’s first love, returns to Meadowlark. The books range from 320 to 370 pages.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass
Possibly one of the most popular fantasy series within the last few years was published between 2015 and 2021. The four-book series was raved all over TikTok, where BookTokers couldn’t stop talking about ACOTAR. While Twilight will forever be the top-tier romance fantasy series, ACOTAR strongly holds second place. The story follows 19-year-old Feyre Archeron, a mortal who lives on the outskirts of the faerie land wall, getting taken against her own will over the wall to Prythian. She’s only heard tales of the lives that live beyond the walls. Tales filled with terrifying lies and beasts. Her time spent on the other side of the wall with High Fae Tamlin changes her viewpoint on what she’s heard all her life. Her feelings go from giving every faerie the cold shoulder to being intrigued about who they are and how they live their life. Feyre’s journey living in Prythian brings a lot of downfalls to her life and her loved ones, but along the way, she learns she has more power than others make her think.
